Jefferson County, W. Va., miscellaneous volumes, 1793-1929.

Miscellaneous account books, 1793-1921, scrapbooks, 1850-1916, and other volumes, 1847-1929, from Jefferson County, W. Va., collected by Thornton Tayloe Perry. Represented in the account books are blacksmiths, general merchants, grocers, millers (grain and lumber), physicians, stationers, tailors, and tobacconists from the Charles Town, Leetown, Shepherdstown, Smithfield [now Middleway], and Summit Point communities. Scrapbooks were compiled by Episcopal minister Hunter Davidson and others, and include marriage and death notices, ca. 1878-1882. Other volumes include a diary, 1847-1856, kept in Smithfield, containing lists of deaths and marriages, ca. 1840s, a recipe book, student notebook, and Charles Town hotel register, 1922-1929.
